26 Flavours of Cornwall is a unique exhibition of writing and design, first shown at Trebah Garden in Cornwall in July 2011 and then shown in a number of venues throughout Cornwall including the Eden Project. 26 writers were paired with 26 designers, who matched each team with an item of Cornish produce and they were challenged to come up with words and design in the form of paper table-settings. Why 26 exactly? Because the project has been organised by the national writers' association 26, working with the Cornwall Design Forum and University College Falmouth. |

Flavour No 20 - Rock Samphire![]() Photographed at Porthleven by David Revell |
"In the stoneage, Rock Samphire was known as Crest Marine; a vegetable cultivated within watering distances of the tideline. Today, despite it's unusual taste and flavour, it's everywhere I go. The cliffside by my local beach is rash-like with it. And the Mexican wave in action below the house, is in fact populated by Rock Samphire; a crest marine indeed" by Margaret Oscar |

| "Out of the water and onto the beach. We're hungry from the sea. Let's crimp a blanket tight around us both, and we'll be wrapped for warmth and comfort. I'll free a hand and take the offered pasty back within our shell, both giggling and shivering as the wind gusts in. Pasty held before us like a trophy, we admire it. Then you bite it. Pastry and steaming filling in each mouthful. Skirret, spud and swede (which you call yellow turnip) salt and pepper and greaseproof paper as I bite too far down. Soon gone it leaves its weight and warmth within us. We huddle closer and watch the waves." By Peter Blackman |
