Perfectly positioned on the harbour head in the idyllic fishing port of Porthleven, Kota has quickly become one of the best-kept secrets in the South West. But not for much longer, as this Cornish Accredited Restaurant has been recently recognized by the Michelin Guide, the Good Food Guide, Square Meal, Harden's Restaurant Guide, Hidden Places in Cornwall and the AA, both for the food and accommodation.

Kota is Maori for shellfish (Jude is half Maori, quarter Chinese, quarter Malaysian) and specialises in local fish and farm produce (organic wherever possible). The restaurant is renowned for its stunning seafood with Jude's signature light Asian twist.




Jane and Jude Kereama are passionate about wine as well as food and have created an exciting list of more than 60 wines from Cornwall to New Zealand. There is a lovely bar area where guests can enjoy a pre dinner drink.

For those either living too far away or who just fancy an indulgent evening of fine food and wine without driving, Kota also offers two double rooms with ensuite bathrooms - one is a spacious family room with double-fronted harbour views. The breakfasts are not to be missed!

Kota Kai Bar and Kitchen



Jude and Jane opened Kota Kai Bar and Kitchen in October 2011 due to a demand from their customers and friends for a relaxed family venue in the village. Having a four year old themselves, they understand the need for somewhere to go for a coffee, snack, glass of wine or full meal where the kids can also enjoy themselves – allowing the parents to properly relax!






Kota Kai occupies the whole of the top floor of Celtic House and has unbeatable views across Porthleven harbour and beyond. Almost every table in the restaurant will benefit from these views as the tables run alongside the many windows at the front of the building. Diners at the top of the restaurant have the option of watching their food being prepared since the kitchen at Kota Kai is open.


The food is simpler than at Kota, but all great quality using local ingredients. Old favorites such as pasta and risotto dishes, mussels, fishcakes, Asian curries and simple grilled fish will run alongside a selection of ‘mini Kai’, i.e. small plates such as salt & pepper squid, beef carpaccio, oysters, piri piri prawns and potted crab.

Kota Kai provides a skittle alley in another room with lounge seating plus a lovely Film Room with large screen and more lounge seating – classic films will be played once or twice a week. All areas can be hired out for parties.



Also, there is a kid’s room where Kids can play safely with a selection of toys, puzzles and games. Kids TV can also be played.
