Porthleven Lifeboat Day
Porthleven's diary throughout the year is packed full of events and activities enjoyed by resident and visitor alike.  Lifeboat Day has long been established as one of the major events of the year. Held in the beginning of august when the summer season is in full swing, it attracts visitors from the whole region.

Raft race contestantThe Raft Race has taken off in the last few years and Porthleven is in direct competition with Praa Sands. The rafts are often ingenious in their conception and there is good natured rivalry between the rafts with flour and water bombs used. The money raised goes towards a worthy charitable cause.

Pram Race Porthleven 2011The Pram Race is just an excuse for a good time in the local hostelries. Everybody dresses up and there is a prize for the best "get-up" . The "race" lasts about 3 hours and begins and ends at the Ship at the harbour. Money is raised to help local charities.

across the Bay Race PorthlevenThe Gig Race is where local gigs from the region gather in the harbour and race around a set course going out to sea. Porthleven has a senior and a junior team and both men and ladies compete against each other. throughout the year, the Gig Team can be seen practising on a Sunday morning, summer and winter. The Across the Bay Race is held annually from Mounts Bay to Porthleven and attracts a large number of enthusiastic onlookers.

Salt Cellar workshops PorthlevenThe Art Galleries in the village contain some very fine artwork and are well worth a visit. Several artists open their studios and some also sell their pictures and works of art at the Harbour Market held mainly in the summer months.  During Bank Holidays, many craft workers bring their craft to be sold on the Harbour Head. the Salt Cellar Workshops are full of interesting crafts of high quality where you can watch articles being made which can then be bought as mementoes.
