Porthleven Food and Music Festival

The Festival commenced on Friday 23rd at 6pm with a prestigious Eden Project Lecture on "Food Sustainability". This was followed at 8pm by the hit comedy: Charity Shop Cabaret. (This was a laugh a minute show enjoyed by a packed house!)



On Saturday 24th the day started at 10am. Porthleven Harbour was surrounded by more than 60 stalls all selling food related goods, together with an area for craft Betty Stoggs - Porthleven Food Festivalstalls. The Main Marquee at the Harbour Head housed the Cooking Theatre, where cooking demonstrations took place throughout the day. Our Patron, the TV Chef, Antony Worrall Thompson, did a Cooking demonstration, along with a number of chefs from highly regarded restaurants in Cornwall, including two of our own Porthleven Chefs – Sat Bajway from the Blue Haze and Jude Kereama from Kota Restaurant.

All day music and entertainment: Many well known groups and bands performed on the covered Music Stage overlooking the harbour, including Porthleven Town Band, SambaBreageside - Porthleven Food Festival Celtica, Helston Jazz Youth Orchestra, the Mounts Bay Singers, Le Jive, The Din of Inequity and British Champion Hip Hop Dancers – Sweet Flava. There were also impromptuperformances around the Harbour throughout the day by Porthleven Morris Dancers and other musicians such as - Flats and Sharps the very talented group of young musicians based in Penzance.

Samba Celtica - Porthleven Food FestivalThere were two further marquees behind the Harbour, on the town's playing fields, housing the Young Person Festival of Food and Music, which included Lets Get Cooking – SanjayKumar (previously Chef in Charge to HRH King Fahad) Cooking Demo for children,FunkyFoods – Cornish Farmers' Wives Union, an X Factor style Showcase of Youth Bands, a FancyDress competition: "Creatures From Under the Sea", surrounded by other events that entertained the whole family: A skate Board Jam, Play Rangers, a Blacksmith with day long demonstrations, a drumming workshop etc.

On Sunday 25th, we had a series of Talks, including those on Wild Food Foraging, BeeKeeping, Pasty Crimping, Fish Preparation, etc. and a Walk for Health wearing Claire's Squirly Hats (from Salt Cellar Workshops) in and around Porthleven.

And throughout the weekend, local artists and craftspeople held an Exhibition in the Christadelphian Hall where people met the artists and viewed their work.
