| Porthleven Food and Music Festival |
commenced in 2009 with a small committee of local residents of the village, who were dedicated to promoting local food producers and local businesses. From a small group of six people, the ![]() first festival was planned and executed under the dynamic leadership of Julia Schofield who, as chairman, enthused the committee into providing a large marquee with cooking theatre and room for 30 food stalls. The television chef and presenter, Antony Worrall Thompson, was approached to be the guest of honour. He was delighted to accept and was willing to demonstrate his cooking skills alongside other local chefs and restauranters. He kindly agreed to present prizes to the local children and adults who had dressed up as vegetables. A musical programme was performed throughout the whole day and into the evening on the Lime Kiln Stage beside the historic harbour of Porthleven. Brass bands, choirs, groups such as the Cornish Worzells, Sea Shanty singers, etc graced the stage. The stallholders placed along Breageside, although deluged with rain throughout the early part of the day, still enjoyed success. Many selling out well before the end of the day. Over 9,000 visitors enjoyed the event on that first year. Succeeding festivals have brought in up to approximately 15,000 visitors who have enjoyed a fun-packed day for all the family. |
